I teach at a public charter school in the town where I grew up. Since we are a charter school, we have students K-12 who drive as much as 45+ minutes each day to expand their knowledge. My homeroom is filled with 25 highly-energetic, sweet, and inquisitive 3rd-grade minds, and I see a total of 75 of these sweet children each day for their science and social studies block.
My students are at the perfect age; they still want to be silly, please adults, and do fun things.
This is my first year teaching and my students have already taught me so much about patience, compassion, organization, and setting realistic goals. I have always heard that "each child in your class was placed there by God for a specific purpose" and I am thankful for all the lessons my children have taught me so far and for those that I will learn throughout the year.
My Project
My 3rd graders are highly energetic individuals who thrive from constant stimulation. Our schedule puts recess at the end of the day when they are tired from all the learning they have done, so this time gives them a chance to unwind before going home.
My students look forward to recess time after a full day of learning and by providing them with a structured way to unwind when weather conditions prevent us from going outside for recess.
By obtaining board games like Monopoly jr, Scrabble Jr, and checkers, my students will work on collaboration, financial, communication, and strategy skills.
