My students need to learn about the weather cycle, how to recycle, grow plants, and become environmentally friendly to take care of our EARTH. They can learn while reading a collection of books that teach them about the environment, recycling, plants, and the weather as they improve as readers!
I teach 2nd grade at a wonderful Title One Elementary School in Northern California.
The school population is mostly lower-middle class families who qualify for free or reduced lunch. More then fifty percent of our students are English language learners; with academic abilities ranging from Gate to special needs."
My Project
Do you ever watch the news or various TV. shows that show global warming? Have you ever wished you could go back in time and become MORE environmentally friendly? As an adult I have done my best to take care of Mother Earth, but we need to educate our children to live GREEN. Hopefully the children will take what they learn in class about living green and they can educate, inspire their families to live green. Our children are going to have to make some radical changes to improve the environment so that their grandchildren will be able to enjoy living on this planet. I want my students to read and learn the science standards to help them understand about plants, weather, water cycle and our earth. I am requesting a collection of science books, a plant kit, and biodegradable planters so that the children can plant various seeds while working on improving their reading comprehension skills.
This project is a win, win situation.
While the children are reading these books they will accomplish two objectives. The children will improve their reading skills which will help them become better readers making them better prepared to comprehend all subjects. As the children become environmentally friendly the planet will be a better place for my students and everyone else who calls this planet home. Please give my children the opportunity to make a difference. Thank You!
