My students come from diverse backgrounds (95% minority), yet they are unified in the pursuit of musical excellence. Music class provides a safe community for creative, emotional, and social opportunities. Students learn employable skills like goal-setting, teamwork, and responsibility while making lifelong friendships.
I teach at a school in central Virginia where 100% of students can receive both free breakfast and free lunch, and about 50% of music students speak English as a second language (current or former ESOL students).
My students are 75% low income but 100% talent! Our school works creatively to assure that no student misses out on an educational opportunity due to money, and DonorsChoose has been "instrumental" in making that happen!
My Project
Every year at the Virginia Music Educators Conference, I hear orchestra directors recommending "Bornoff" string teaching technique. I had no idea what it was until I attended a short 50-minute session on the subject. It was an amazing (albeit brief) presentation. I just found out that the week-long Bornoff course is coming up only a couple of hours away from home, and I need to be there!
Help me get training in strategies for teaching orchestra that will inspire greatness in my students and refresh my professional learning outlook!
For this project, I have requested the registration fee for the week-long FASE workshop given by the Bornoff guru Debbie Lyle. I'm super excited about how this training is going to breathe new life into our music classroom! Thank you in advance for helping me help my students.
