Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Good, Better, Best! I'll never let it rest until my good is better and my better is best!" This is what my students say every morning when they walk in. I want them to repeat and feel confident in knowing that they cannot stop working hard and giving all of their efforts unless you truly give yourself that best effort.
I teach at a Title I school in south Louisiana where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My kiddos were affected by the flood and we lost everything from our homes to our desks.
My Project
In August of 2016, our school was greatly effected by the great flood in Louisiana. My students lost everything from their homes to their desks in the classroom. Currently, our school is made up of temporary buildings located on the campus of another school until we can rebuild. Starting over from absolutely nothing has been quite the transition. Having a rug in the classroom provides structure.
We need a large rug in the classroom that also allows the students to feel ‘comfortable’ and creates the tone of a safe and ‘upbeat’ atmosphere.
These classroom rugs of course are used for safety reasons we well! The rug is important especially in a first grade classroom because at this age, school is still relatively new to them.
