My students need engaging and developmentally appropriate games such as Scramble Squares puzzles, Scramble Games, chess, and checkers that will foster social and emotional learning opportunities.
My amazing fourth grade students are passionate about learning. They begin each day energized and ready to work hard to achieve their goals. Students in our classroom community come from very diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, many of which are well-below poverty levels and learning English as a second language.
My students are all striving to achieve the same goals: finding their passion, persevering to achieve their goals, and building strong character that will enable them to be respectful citizens in their community.
My Project
The games and logic puzzles we hope to add to our classroom are far more than just fun and games. These hands-on, developmentally appropriate games will give students the opportunity to be engaged in developmentally appropriate games that will further develop their social and emotional well-being.
Specifically, our class will use the Scramble Squares puzzles, Scramble Games, Chess, and Checkers games to strengthen our problem-solving skills and learn how to work cooperatively with others.
We will use the Tangrams, Izzi Game, and Logic games to bring our Geometry Unit to life and provide students with valuable opportunities to work in small, cooperative groups to accomplish a common goal. Lastly, I will use the picture books listed as a literature connection to working cooperatively and math concepts.
When games are developmentally appropriate, they challenge students to not only apply valuable core and content concepts, but also provide a safe opportunity for students to further develop social and emotional skills. Students need safe opportunities to learn how to work cooperatively and the materials in this wish list will enable my students to further develop important life skills.
