Motivating children every day is a theme for our school. We are a Title I school, and most of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. We are continually making strides to meet each student's needs.
Our students are curious and creative learners.
They are excited to participate in projects and show pride in their work. They enjoy hearing stories read aloud to them, as well as hearing about places they have never visited. Their interests involve sports, video gaming, animals, fashion, and drawing.
My Project
When students have the ability to be creative in their artwork, they take ownership of their work as they are allowed to freely use the art skills they have learned. They also have the chance to try new ideas. Reading is similar in those connecting students with books they are interested in can influence the engagement of a child with a book.
Giving students the chance to create a personalized bookmark can be the extra motivation to encourage reading and lead to a love of reading.
The excitement from using their artistic abilities will carry over to getting to use their bookmark. Growing readers and artists is a "win-win". Connecting art to reading is more than just about a design. It's the connection piece that many students need.
