Aloha from na keiki o Hawai'i. My preschool special education class provides early intervention services to qualifying special needs children with a range of disabling conditions, ages 3 to 5 years. My school is located in a predominantly rural, low-income neighborhood with a considerable portion of the children of Hawaiian and/or Pacific Island ancestry.
Our classroom cheer sums it up: "You too, we too, we all love preschool!" We are a group of actively involved adults-teacher, aide, and therapists, and children working together in our hands-on learning environment.
My Project
In my class, we love celebrating, and t-shirt decorating, gift making and gift giving are year-round activities.
As an early childhood teacher often I am the first person to introduce my students to craft projects other than coloring.
I admit as much as I love to hear the "wows!" from the parents, I offer my students these opportunities because in most cases, they would not otherwise have these creative experiences.
The fabric markers and puffy paints will be used to decorate and personalize the resupply of canvas bags that we love to give to our families. They will also be used to decorate the kids' t-shirts that we make for different themes and occasions throughout the year.
I need these supplies to make these experiences possible.
