This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very active and inquisitive! They are very much their own person, with many stories to tell and feelings to express!! We are in a low income, high poverty neighborhood, with many single family homes and parents who work long and many hours.

My students are learning to become stronger communicators and learning to collaborate with each other.

They are open to try new experiences and ideas. We like to use our creativity to explore various activities and projects!

My Project

We are looking to purchase individual number carpet squares so students can sit in various places and not always be confined to a large carpet space, especially during independent reading time and also whole group time. Since each carpet has a brightly colored number, we can also use this for number sequencing, skip counting, even and odd, and simple addition and subtraction!

Students have the flexibility to move their carpet seating around, to suit their needs for partner/small group work or individual work as well.

With the flexibility of the carpet squares, we can also move desks around with more ease to allow for collaborative groups and activities. Students can benefit from working with friends and also maybe work with others they are not so familiar with, yet! I feel it makes for a more cozier work environment!
