Raise your hand if you like to play games. Every student in my class would have their hand high in the air.
In between all of the snow storms and holidays, this time of year it is very hard to motivate students with necessary test prep.
Because of this, I need to provide my students with some fun ways to review the skills they are so close to mastering. Pencil-and-paper practice tests do not give students the hands-on learning opportunities that they crave. Whether a student is gifted, learning supported or performing on grade level, they all can benefit from the advantages of learning through games. I need to grab their attention and keep it, so the games I have selected will give the students the chance to work collaboratively to secure their skills in reading, vocabulary and social studies. With your assistance, students can begin playing these games very soon!
My Project
Students are always looking for new things to do during indoor recess, literacy stations and at the end of the school day while waiting for their buses. Educational games are the key to their happiness. The reading and vocabulary games I am requesting will allow students to work together with their classmates to learn new vocabulary words, techniques and strategies, along with basic reading skills.
As far as our social studies curriculum is concerned, we have hundreds of years to cover in 16 weeks of instruction. The students LOVE history and love learning about all of the things our ancestors did to form this nation. The social studies kit I am requesting includes games for students to learn about the first Americans, exploration, colonization, westward expansion, geography, government, and the regions of the United States--all topics in our fifth grade curriculum! Because time is limited, students will be able to learn while playing these interactive games with their friends!
Each of your donations will directly impact the students that are currently in my class, as well as the students that I will have in the years to come.
Fifth graders will have the opportunity to play these games with their friends, learning valuable socialization skills right along with the reading and social studies skills they will be mastering. And the best part? They will learn these concepts while having a blast! Who doesn't love to play games?
