Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are curious about the world around them and they are always seeking answers to their questions. They're natural scientists that seek to explain everyday and extraordinary scientific phenomenon. This curiosity needs to be nurtured. Funding this project, will allow my students to have access to tools and technology that will guide their inquiry and learning.
Developing 21st century science skills will enable my students to solve the myriad of problems we have in front of us.
I have no doubt my students are capable of providing the solution. A diverse community of learners from the Lower East Side are exactly the students to get the job done!
My Project
Students learn best by doing. These science kits will allow them to have a unique opportunity to engage with real scientific apparatus. It's rare that any science department has the lab equipment to give students the opportunity to think and act like a scientist. Using Snap Circuits, converting one type of energy to another, and understanding the basics of how magnets operate are valuable steps in understanding the foundations of science.
Imagine my students excitement as they construct a siren or a photo sensor, a flashing light, and design working electrical circuits.
We must prepare students for careers in the STEM fields if we want to solve the problems ahead of us. Sparking curiosity and having the tools to seek answers will help us build our next generation of scientists.
