Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a P.E. teacher, I have the great pleasure to work with students from Kindergarten all the way up to 5th Grade. These students come from many different situations and circumstances which gives our school a rich diversity. This diversity provides our students with opportunities to learn about culture, tolerance, and empathy as they interact each day. We harness strength from our unique student body in the hopes of becoming a beacon of unity and social understanding in our community.
I teach at a Title I School in Nevada in which the high percentage of my students come from bilingual homes and receive free lunch.
My students often face tough obstacles in their lives but arrive to school smiling and ready to learn. They love their teachers and they adore their principal. Our school truly is a community – a family. We each do our part as student and teacher work side by side with one mission in mind: our students’ success. We teach them about how to be positive examples of respect in their community. We show them how to overcome their challenges by hard work and patience. We work together to succeed.
My Project
Attending this national conference of the Society of Health and Physical Educators will help me grow as a professional and as an educator. This will be the first national conference that I have had the opportunity to attend and I am thrilled to take advantage of what I will learn from the sessions. I will hear from experts in my specialized field of education and I will gain understanding of the most recent literature and practices from my field. I will share ideas and collaborate with other P.E. teachers from around the nation with the hope of discovering new methods and practices for my own classroom.
This conference will improve my ability to use the best techniques and teach with the highest levels of engagement; it will transform my school's physical education department.
I will be able to share what I learn with the other Health and P.E. teachers from my school. I am currently the only P.E. teacher at my school that works exclusively with the elementary-aged students. There are over 600 students that come to my class prepared to learn, play, and grow. I must also prepare myself to learn the newest strategies, formulate positive activities, and provide my students with the greatest chance for success. This conference will allow me to do all of these things. This conference will impact the lives of my students for years to come and will improve my school's program exponentially.
