Ms. King from Greenville SC is requesting instructional technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

It's Alright to Stutter.

My students need headphones to utilize Delayed Auditory Feedback application. Using the app in the general education setting increases a student's self-confidence, and they are more apt to participate in classroom discussions.

My Students

I instruct and encourage K4-5th grade students with a variety of speech-language needs. My students have goals for articulation, fluency (stuttering/cluttering), and language skills. We work in small groups to encourage growth and generalization of their skills. My students enjoy coming to speech. The environment is positive and respectful. It is my responsibility as an educator to foster self-confidence, and enable students to experience one's own version of success.

My kiddos always step up to the plate during our speech sessions.

They are amazing and a lot of fun!

My Project

My goal for this project is to provide a resource that will specifically foster self-confidence for my students who stutter or clutter. The headphones are needed to utilize Delayed Auditory Feedback (DAF), a software program that plays back to the student what she or he said just a fraction of a second before. DAF has been shown to induce fluency in many individuals who stutter. We talk often about how it is alright to stutter. This app is one of many tools my students have in their speech toolbox to assist moving beyond a disfluent moment.

Several of my students do not speak in class because they are self-conscious of their struggle to verbally communicate.

These precious students with speech fluency goals, desperately need earphones to utilize the feedback app beyond the speech room. They will use this app within the general education classroom to encourage classroom participation.

Due to budget restraints, I purchased earbuds that were not of the best quality. Unfortunately, they broke within a few weeks. Your generous donation will provide each child with her/his own set of headphones to use throughout the school setting.
