As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to help them develop an interest in school and learning. All my students are below grade level in reading and are struggling in their classes. I am starting a new job this school year and will be working with students who have been identified with dyslexia. Several of my students also have trouble focusing for longer than a few minutes. Education is not a priority in many of their homes and isn't valued.
My Project
My students need to improve their vocabulary to help them be successful in school. Learning the background of our language and how Greek and Latin roots affect the meanings of words will help them become better students in their content area classes.
Since the bulletin board will be displayed, it will be a constant help as we dive into the morphology of words.
Using the chart paper to help us keep word walls is a great way to learn and review the new words that we will encounter as we learn all about the English language and how we inherited the words we use.
