Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are typical kids. They love to laugh, dance, draw, and play. My school is a Title I school, which means all of the students who come to my classroom every day, come from low-income households.
Many of them are not physically, mentally, or emotionally prepared for learning every morning.
Many do not have working electricity or running water. Most do not have an adult at home checking their school bag every night and helping with homework.
I have the uphill challenge of not only teaching them academic subjects but teaching them that they are safe and loved every day they are in my classroom.
My students need to be engaged, motivated, and supported to grow as independent and lifelong learners. I work tirelessly to meet the needs of my students academic, social, and emotional needs.
My Project
Everyone loves to play games and my competitive students love to win! These math games will be used as centers to help engage my students with the concepts being taught, as well as, build prerequisite skills.
When math games are played repeatedly students’ develop computational fluency and strategic mathematical thinking - cards games, board games and dice ensure there is something for everyone!
Different types of games which focus on different skills helps ensure everyone will find a game that they love which will help build their understanding.
This project will bring fun and learning that will benefit my students for years to come!
