My students are an eager-to-learn group of kids. Last year our school and our community were effected by Hurricane Harvey. Many students were directly impacted and many lost homes and most of their possessions. We, as a community, have been working hard to rebuild and come back stronger than ever before.
Our school is located in Southeast Texas and all of our students are on the free breakfast and lunch program.
These families are already considered to be of low socioeconomic level and now many have lost everything they own due to Hurricane Harvey and the flooding that was a direct result of the storm. We as a community are finally moving forward and healing from this disaster.
My Project
My students need new educational games to enhance their small groups. The classroom materials that we have in our classroom are old, outdated, and many pieces are missing. We received many of our current material secondhand and we would love to have new small group materials.
I would like to give my students a variety of new ways to learn material that will make them successful in Kindergarten and beyond.
The Zingo games would be a new fun way for students to practice letters, numbers, and sight words. I would love to bring several word building games to my small groups like, Spelligators or Boggle Jr. We would be able to use the dry erase wheel for many different concepts and it would be very engaging for the students. The items that would be most beneficial would be the gifted and talented card decks. Our GT placed students only get served once a week for 45 minutes and I would love new materials to work with them in small groups.
