My Students
I teach 20 amazing and adorable kindergarten scholars. They enter my classroom with big smiles, happy, and ready to learn. Many students that come to our school do not speak English and have no preschool experience. We also have exceptional students included in our class.
We are a Global Magnet Title I School serving 65% low-income families who speak limited English.
We offer Mandarin Chinese and Spanish to our students. Our school also serves parents who work multiple jobs to help make ends meet.
My Project
Teaching Kindergarten students how to believe in themselves can be challenging. I want to read the "Only One You" to my students to encourage self-confidence and self-belief. This project will be able to help my students celebrate individuality and appreciating the diversity of the world around them. The book will be read aloud and we will discuss diversity and understanding feelings. The rocks, paint, and paint trays will be used to have students paint their one and only fish which represent their uniqueness. When my students are feeling vulnerable, or uncomfortable, frustrated, unhappy, or had problems with friendship at school, they could hold their rock fish in their hands and remember just how special they are and all the qualities they have to offer. Also, we will use the essential oil to set a calm, relaxing environment as the students work on their project.
The rock will remind themselves there's only one you and that they can make a difference in our world.
