My students live in a small, rural, farming community. I have been their librarian since fall 2018 and we have had so much fun reading stories together. The students are creative and curious. Our school library is rather dated in some sections. There are so many amazing and engaging books out there that I know my students would love, but working within a school library budget has limits.
Please help me get my eager readers books they will love so they have up to date nonfiction and engaging, entertaining and inspiring fiction.
My Project
My K-8 school has readers at all levels, and with very different interests. Different kids are hooked into reading by different genres and authors. It's challenging to get all the "just right" books for every child with a school library budget. The books on this list are high interest and at varying reading levels so that all readers in the school can have new and engaging books.
Poetry can reach students who struggle as readers.
The Mr. Rogers poetry book and the color poetry book can inspire students and draw them in. Some students are drawn to books about animals and mythical beasts. A popular series for younger kids is What If You Had Animal.... Students also benefit from current events books and biographies about inspiring people; the books about Sonia Sotomayor, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, and Greta Thunberg provide portrayals of positive female role models.
