This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a wonderful group of 2nd graders. They attend an urban school where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. The students come from many different backgrounds and face many different challenges in their day to day lives. There are many single income families and families that are receiving assistance in one form or another. Regardless of the challenges these students face, they always come to school with a smile on their face. They are eager to learn and when given an even playing field, they are capable of great things! I want to help even the field for them and their education.
My Project
My students will be using the computer games, as a class, to improve their skills working with money. The students all love money and spending it, but very few can actually count it, identify it and add or subtract it. My goal is to get the students proficient using money.
Once the students have gained some knowledge on money, we will be using it in our class store to buy small incentives like the finger puppets, bouncy balls, and necklaces.
I have found the students are very quick learners when the money is theirs and they have to earn it from their behavior.
