I work in a Title I school where over 91% of our students get free or reduced-price lunch, and many families work very hard every day to support their family. For some of my students, English is their second language, and many are significantly below level in reading, needing extra support to help them make the necessary gains to increase their reading comprehension.
My students come from very low-income families, where buying even the many necessities can be difficult.
This makes it difficult for many of the families to purchase books and other reading resources for their children to use at home. I want to provide my students with experiences they never dreamed of. I want to make sure they all have good books in their hands to read! I want to have my students leave my classroom wanting to read and not thinking of reading as something they have to do.
My students continue to struggle with their multiplication facts! Students knowing their math facts is very important so that they can begin to understanding the higher-level math concepts. When students are not able to masters their facts it makes these concepts significantly more difficult for them to solve accurately. Providing my students with fun and engaging games such as, Splat, Math War and Three-Corner flash Cards will help them to practice and learn these much needed facts! My students need fun and engaging games to increase their desire to practice and learn their facts! These games will help to make learning these facts FUN!!
