Our school is located in Pitt County, NC, not far from East Carolina University. We are blessed to be a K-8 school, which allows teachers to follow their students through much of their school careers. Our student population varies greatly, but there is a growing population of students who come from homes with limited technological resources.
I am blessed to work with students who have a strong desire to learn.
As their teacher, I try to incorporate a variety of learning strategies including collaborative group work and online resources to ensure student needs are met. I look forward to each new group, as I know that a new learning family is created each year!
My Project
Currently, my students are limited in terms of digital technology. I am not able to expose my students to resources that would help them be successful.
Should this grant be funded, my students would be able to explore science topics. One of the projects my class does each year is The Talking Zoo.
It is a very detailed project where students explore a certain animal, research information on that animal, create a report and then present their information to parents and fellow students. This grant would help ensure that my students would have the resources needed to complete this project.
In addition to science, my students would also be able to play games that would reinforce language arts and math concepts. Over time, I have compiled a wealth of online resources that make learning fun. Some of the math concepts in second grade, including telling time and place value, can be quite difficult. However, students truly enjoy working on these skills through online resources.
