My students need the overhead complete kit, the overhead coin set, money quiz cards, the Kaplan money kit, money pocket chart, and money dice for hands on learning.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Learning to count money is a hard skill for many children. It is hard to count coins that are different sizes, have different values, and are different colors. For some children, this is very confusing.
The children in my class are inner-city students who live in a community surrounded by violence and bullying.
They often live in multiple family households. These students like to please the adults in our school. They often find our school to be a safe haven from the crime and violence in the neighborhood. They are generally happy to learn. Most of them are visual and kinesthetic learners.
My Project
We will use the charts on money to introduce the different coins. We will then use the overhead kits on money to count money in whole group discussions. The games and cash drawers will be used in small groups. The students will be allowed to be assessed on counting money in a hands-on method.
Remember, the students are from a low socio-economic background.
Therefore, they don't have access to an abundance of money. This will give them a hands-on experience. This will also allow students to have actual coins to work with while counting money.
