This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Each morning I am greeted by eighteen of the most enthusiastic and motivated students. It is my goal to produce students who question the world around them and who will see a problem as an opportunity to create a solution that will ultimately change the world.
I teach at an elementary school in a high-poverty urban setting.
The school is currently a Title I school. My students come to school daily looking to be challenged and knowing that our school is a safe place where learning is fun and engaging.
My Project
I'm requesting a variety of math manipulatives for my class in areas where they usually struggle. Big concepts in third grade are fractions, place value and multiplication. I'm asking for magnetic fractions strips, and circles, base ten blocks, and magnetic multiplication area models.
These methods help them as they progress in math, but are the concepts are hard to understand at the elementary level.
With these tools, students will be able to move the pieces around the white board to gain a better understanding of the skills that are a necessity in third grade. Without the mastery of these skills my students will have a harder time through out their math career.
