The school I teach at is quite special, as we are the first expeditionary learning school in our state! This learning model is more hands-on, more real world, and more student-led. We focus on academics and character building. It is an exciting model that we're all quite proud to be a part of!
I may be biased, but my students are the best in the world!
They are curious, exciting, musical, thoughtful, loving, and all-around good kids. They come from various backgrounds and homes, but we work together so well. We are a crew through and through!
Students absolutely love coming to music class! I see each class every three days and they make sure to tell me in the hallway, "We have music today, Ms. Ashley" with the most excited look on their faces. It's an amazing feeling to see them enjoy the art of music so much.
My Project
When students learn to play recorder, they typically only think of the soprano recorder that we all learn to play. Students hardly realize that there are multiple different sizes of recorders! I am thankful to own most of the sizes to be able to show and play for them, including the Garklein recorder, Sopranino recorder, Soprano recorder, and Alto recorder! The two I do not have are the tenor and bass recorders, which in my opinion, are the coolest of them all!
Having a tenor and bass recorder to show my students will help them visualize the various types of recorder in person, as well as give them a goal to play as well as they can so they can play those recorders too!
It would be such a great experience for students to be able to play recorder quartets with these instruments!
