My classes are made up of fourth-grade students who attend a low-income public school in suburban Florida. Many of these students are from families with limited resources at home. We continue to reach for the stars and make learning an adventure.
As a school and community, we all work together to give each student a high-quality education, while broadening their horizons.
By incorporating hands-on lessons, participating in community projects, and providing after-school club opportunities, our students can reach for the stars.
Our district provides a free breakfast lunch for every child. Although they do not quite understand the bigger picture of what this really means in the long-run, I will never let them figure it out in my classroom.
My Project
I am currently in my eighth year of teaching. I love what I do and I could not possibly imagine spending my life doing anything different. I live, breathe, and sleep thinking about ways I can improve my teaching craft to make my instructional time spent with my students more effective.
By attending the Kagan Cooperative Learning Summer Institute in Orlando on July 15-19, 2019, I can gain new knowledge for better cooperative learning strategies to keep my students engaged in their learning.
I have attended the first part of this workshop already, and can see a huge difference in my students and their learning. As teachers, we know that the only students learning are the ones that are actively engaged in that learning. Kagan teaches us how to bring our engagement level up to 100% in the classroom. This solidifies a belief I have always had, that all children can learn. For these reasons, I would love to attending the Kagan Cooperative Learning Summer Institute..
