My students need a class set of ETA hand2mind Geared Clocks to accurately tell time, to help solve difficult elapsed time problems, and for independent practice in small groups.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Third graders are a sweet and curious group of students who love hands-on experiences. Like the colors of a rainbow, these children shine in different ways because of their different hues, intensity, and values. My mission is to tap into what each child brings to my classroom to extend their learning and help them go as far as they can go during the year they are with me.
My students are bilingual learners who amaze me with their curiosity and the awesome ideas they bring into our classroom community.
Many of my students come from underprivileged homes, while others are on the opposite end of the spectrum. Yet they are all caring children with diverse needs who are always willing to help each other understand and learn new concepts.
I can never finish the sentence, "Who would like to help..." when countless hands shoot up in the air to volunteer. Sometimes I jokingly finish my sentence by offering an unpleasant job...and hands still wave in the air!
My Project
The ability to model time using the Learning Resources Big Time Learning clock will definitely help students see how a clock works and how to tell time accurately. Modeling, followed by being able to manipulate a clock, will cement this understanding. An ETA hand2mind geared clock for each student will help make a faster transition to the very difficult concept of resolving elapsed time problems.
Providing students with hands-on opportunities to practice hard to understand concepts is a valuable investment because it makes abstract concepts a little easier to visualize.
A great tool for this is the Learning Resources Magnetic Elapsed Time Set, which will make it easier and faster to solve elapsed time problems.
Some students can mentally figure out elapsed time, others need a clock, and some need to see the time in a number line such as the magnetic one in this request - and yet other students need more refreshers. Having a ready-made set is more convenient than having to erase and redraw the lines on a whiteboard.
The Dice Learning Aid will keep students engaged in time telling games so I can work with struggling students in small groups. This whole set would be a blessing and will keep my class ticking forward to continue their valuable math learning!
