Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences through the process of learning to play a musical instrument.
They love positive attention and once they have learned the basics of how to play an instrument, they look forward to showing off their musical skills and performing.
Many are being raised in single parent households and receive a free or reduced-price lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical".
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
Middle school kids like to have fun while learning how to play a musical instrument. But you know what's not fun? Not having a suitable place to rest the crash cymbals to quickly pick up the triangle when you only have 3 beats of rest! (Percussionists know what i'm talking about). This is reality when you are preparing and performing wind ensemble music of artistic merit.
The cymbal cradle stand provides the percussionist a place to quickly and quietly rest the cymbals while they transition to the next percussion instrument.
Trap tables are portable, foldable surfaces for percussion knick knacks such as sticks of any kind, triangles, castinets, woodblocks, cabasas or egg shakers to name a few. The trap table also provides quick access to the performers sticks or percussion instrument essential to being ready to play their part in the music. These stands and tables will make music accessible, fun and allow students to focus on their own learning and decrease the chances of our delicate percussion instruments breaking.
