Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a 2nd grade classroom in South Florida with 16 students! Our school is amazing and a great place to learn! Our school supplies the basic supplies, but budget cuts have taken some of the extra learning resources away.
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day.
I am always looking for rigorous activities to keep them learning and which will provide my students with a creative and meaningful experience
My Project
Through the use of classic story books students will increase their vocabulary and learn to write their own endings to familiar stories such as The Gingerbread Man, Hansel and Gretel and, The Three Little Pigs. We will read a book as a class then discuss an alternative ending to that story. Students will use their imaginations and rewrite the ending to familiar classics and share it with their classmates. By doing so, students will increase their understanding and craft of narrative writing. It bears repeating that the more students read, especially books they love, the more their vocabulary increases.
Second graders are visual learners.
They are hands-on creatures. They love to hold the books, touch the pages and examine the pictures. With this love of learning and enthusiasm I can take them off into multi-discipline content. such as writing and even math.
I have many books, but one cannot have too many. I am trying to add to my collection of essentials.
Vocabulary games are so much fun for students. They are so engaged, they don't even realize how much knowledge they receive.
