My Students
Our school saying is, "Better today than yesterday! Better tomorrow than today!" I want to make their tomorrow better!
My class consists of a diverse group of learners.
My class has 26 second grade students of varying abilities. The socio-economic background of our students is reflected by our 97% free or reduced-price lunch rate.
I teach in an urban inner city school rich with diversity. Most of my students need additional learning materials to meet grade level expectations. Please help me to make tomorrow better for them!
My Project
My second graders come from many different backgrounds. We have students that come from many countries in the world! We enjoy learning about different countries and heritages to learn that we are all special and unique.
Having read a loud libraries and blank books to write stories about our family celebrating special ethnic holidays will help us feel included in our classroom and community.
Many of my students are not able to read grade level text by themselves. Being able to put on a grade level text on our CD player and allowing them to listen to a grade level text will enable them to feel inclusive in our classroom which has many varying abilities levels. Many times my below level readers do not feel included in class discussions because they can not read the text themselves.
I would love to have my students work on the Martin Luther King Jr text and discuss inclusion and acceptance in the classroom. Many of them do not know about Rosa Parks or Martin Luther King Jr. These are very important people in the history of our nation who stepped up to show that inequality in our country needed to change. I feel I have a nice mix of materials in this project to promote multicultural and inclusion to my students.
