My students need a digital microscope that they can use to view microscopic life as a whole class and then illustrate the projected focal plane as a microscopy.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Think back to when you were in middle school and the time it took to wait in line to see what all the fuss was about under the microscope lens. My students have limited time to have meaningful discussions regarding what they view under their microscopes with classmates.
My 7th grade students are all scientists at heart.
Since the beginning of the year they have shown a great interest in hands-on exploration and classroom discussions centered around many scientific topics that affect them environmentally, medically, physically, astronomically and beyond. My students have grown up in the public education system and are deserving of a holistic science experience during their middle school careers. My students are fully engaged with each lab we do and I truly see a hopeful future for our planet when I see them work through critical thinking tasks that we will one day depend on them to use as they become part of the scientific frontier.
My Project
The digital microscope my students and I are requesting will enable us to view microscopic life throughout our life science curriculum. Many of our students have had meaningful dialogue in their small lab groups as they examine the microorganisms through their microscopes and complete their own microscopy(s) to present to the class. Having a microscope that has the ability to project the focal plane on a large screen will give my students the chance to create strong dialogue of what they observe on a slide viewed by the whole class. Much like a close reading in Language Arts, students will have the opportunity to do a close reading of a what they view in the focal plane as a whole class and analyze with all of their peers in a whole class setting. This opportunity will reinforce vocabulary as students are given the chance to discuss and analyze as a whole class both orally and in extended response.
Your donation will allow my students to become more prepared for the careers that await them in microbiology, entomology, pathology, and many other fields of science.
Students will not be as challenged by time restraints that do not enable them to walk around and view other student lab work. This digital microscope will also enable our class to upload images of our slides we are in the process of studying to the friends and families of our school, helping to build community.
