My students are bright, inquisitive, and curious. As students with multiple handicaps, they face significant learning challenges on a daily basis, yet they persist to achieve at high levels. Simply put, my students are amazing!
Many students in my classroom share with me their loneliness and disappointment with the lack of time spent with friends outside of the classroom setting.
Because many of my students have not developed the proper social skills to be successful in community settings, they do not have the opportunity to participate in age-appropriate activities enjoyed by their same-aged peers.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning and engaging socially with their peers, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have the opportunity to work with them and watch them continue to learn and grow each year.
Our Luau Party is an opportunity for over 400 middle and high school students with special needs throughout L. County, Ohio to come together in a fun social setting.
Research has shown that students with special needs often demonstrate decreased social skills compared to their same age peers.
This often results in decreased opportunities to participate in and enjoy social and leisure activities with their peers. The Luau Party offers students with special needs the opportunity to practice social skills in authentic ways within a safe and supported environment.
With your support, we can have a far-reaching affect on children with special needs throughout our county!
