Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are outgoing and eager to learn new things every day. They love reading and enjoy special projects that help them reach beyond their goals. My students have strong reading skills and require a challenge to continue growth.
We are a kindergarten to fifth grade, Title I, elementary school with more than four hundred children.
All students receive free breakfast and lunch. We are a proactive school with several before and after-school tutoring and community outreach programs. Our students' families struggle financially, but everyone is dedicated to helping our parents provide for their children.
The educators and support staff are amazing in their dedication and determination to make a difference in the lives of our students.
We have recently partnered with the Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center in Orlando to bring new opportunities to our students in which we will produce a Disney Musical at our school. Our goal is to give each student the very best education and the best support possible at all times. We will not fail in our mission, and our students share our determination to succeed!
My Project
During this time of distance learning, reading aloud to students is one way of getting students access to books and reading. The books in this project were chosen to help cover science content through the use of the read alouds.
These books focus on science content related to animal habitats.
This will give students an opportunity to compare and contrast animal habitats, adaptations, and characteristics through listening comprehension and both live and virtual online discussion activities. Science content is very important for students and it is necessary to engage the learners in ways that will keep them using higher-order thinking skills.
