“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” This quote, by Benjamin Franklin, describes the classroom environment that I create for my energetic and enthusiastic students. Kindergarten is a busy place with active hands-on learning and happy smiles from students who love to learn and have fun!
Every day, 20 Kindergartners come bouncing into my classroom excited to learn.
We start our morning routine with "our song" and our school family is ready to come together. We acknowledge differences and respect one another. Our one rule is: "Be nice."
Each day is a new learning experience with a hands-on, multi-sensory approach; curious learners need constant motion and opportunities to explore their environment. My students know every day is an adventure in learning and they want to know, "What are we going to learn today?"
My Project
This mobile, multi-use easel is our "Super Tool"! Literacy Stations become a snap! When we work together with friends, we build words with magnet letters and practice matching sight words on the magnetic easel! This is our favorite station!
Whole group instruction and independent learning just got a lot more interesting and fun!
We put our phonics practice to task by using letter magnets to build words that follow word families. Sentence strips help us create sentences and placing words in the correct order. We write words with our dry erase markers that fit within the word families.
The easel is a problem solving tool. We can practice writing number sentences and using magnetic math manipulatives on the easel!
Shared writing is exciting when students help write stories on chart paper that's clipped onto the easel. They give ideas for our story and I draft them.
The easel is a "super-tool" when we animate our shared writing story on the flannel board! Our stories come to life!
