Remember when you learned to read? Remember the excitement you felt? My students are embarking on that same journey, but need more tools to get there!
I have the wonderful opportunity to work with 20 Kindergarten students each day.
At 5 and 6 years old, these students are exploring the world around them and learning all the time. My students are growing up in a technology-filled world and the use of technology in the classroom not only increases their excitement for learning, but prepares them for the future as well.
My Project
My students need two iPod Touches to use in our listening center during the literacy block. Technology is quickly becoming an essential for student learning in the classroom. As a Kindergarten teacher, I want my students to develop a love for learning that will carry them throughout their lives. Using iPod Touches during our literacy block will combine the excitement that comes with technology and the love of learning I am trying to instill in them. Part of our literacy block focuses on the aspect of listening to reading. This is very important as students begin to develop early reading skills. The iPod Touch will bring this skill to life as students use the technology to choose the book they want to listen to and can engage in learning activities related to skills learned while listening to the particular story.
Our society is becoming increasingly more technology based and as a teacher I feel it is important to prepare my students for the future.
The use of iPod Touches in our classroom will be extremely beneficial in preparing my students. They will be exposed to the use of technology and see the vital role it can play in learning. These iPod Touches will help my students as they begin developing essential reading and writing skills that they will use for the rest of their lives.
