Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students throughout Chatham County Schools struggle with poverty. Many struggle to meet their supplies for school and to have experiences needed to provide a holistic and global world view. Our students are sweet but they face struggles with gangs in our area. There is a large Hispanic population in our school system, and majority of our students come from minority groups within society. We need support to aid in meeting their needs and expanding their experiences in order to create in them the 21st century skills needed to be true global citizens.
My Project
As an itinerant teacher, I am mobile throughout our school system. Because of the variety of locations I teach in, I do not always have access to the best technology and tools to benefit my students. Having the use of an iPad would allow me the opportunity to access more resources, better individualized learning, and teach multiple communication modalities. This tool would also aid in assessment, documentation, and communication with team members as we all work together to support students. The ability to travel with tools will directly impact my instruction for students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Example Lessons: For students who are working on learning how to access an interpreter for community events, we could use P3 Mobile to practice self-advocacy and post-secondary skills.
For younger students, Apple has a variety of apps that could be used to support language development such as: ASL Kids, Signed Stories, Language Builder, and Splingo’s Language Universe. There are many more that would make this technological tool beneficial for my students and aid in meeting their needs and growth.
