I am the intervention specialist in four full inclusion classrooms. Not only do I co-teach in these classrooms, I also manage the IEPs and goals of twenty students with disabilities. In the school system where I teach, more than half of our students are low-income students. More often than not, some of my students come to school without even their most basic needs being met. Even with these barriers, this does not stop my amazing students from coming to school eager and anxious to learn and be the best they can be!
My students' disabilities range from mild to intensive, so I strive to make sure all of my students learn, no matter their ability level, in this setting.
There is a lot of differentiated teaching and learning going on throughout the day to make sure I am meeting the needs of all of the students. This typically means I need to make sure I have a variety of resources at my fingertips to be able to provide my students with everything they need to be able to learn. My goal is to set them up to be independent, contributing members to society in the future!
My Project
One of my roles as a co-teacher in four full inclusion 9-12 classrooms is to modify and accommodate materials and instruction to meet the needs of our special education population and at-risk students. My students strive to keep up at a pace above their level of functioning and are driven to succeed and be successful.
The Apple iPad that I am requesting will help my students master their IEP goals by creating fun, engaging, and creative ways to learn.
Furthermore, our school's professional learning focus this year has been to implement more inquiry-based learning and hands-on STEM activities throughout our school day. Often times, my students have to do extensive research to come up with creative ideas to reinforce their projects. In order to do so, I need access to Google Read & Write which will read all text aloud on any given website. Additionally, there are many apps and educational games that target the skills my students are working on. There are even ways to incorporate the iPad while working on daily living and vocational skills.
The iPad will open up unlimited opportunities for learning and the essential technological skills needed in today's world.
I have seen how much more engaged students are when technology is involved. I would love to give my students the opportunity to utilize technology at the touch of a finger.
