Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The majority of my students live in high poverty, are ELL students and are from low socioeconomic backgrounds that receive free and reduced-price lunches. Both parents often have two jobs or more. They are not in the habit of sustained listening because they don’t always have the routines that are developed in early childhood. Despite so many challenges, my students are eager and willing to accept the challenge of learning.
My students are spirited, eager and creative young children.
They are all unique and individual little people. The majority of them are Latinos and bilingual (Spanish /English). They have not yet mastered either language. They struggle with all academic content because of their languages deficits. It is my privilege to support them in Spanish when necessary. They fiercely take on the responsibility of learning, despite any language barriers, academic struggles or behavior distractions. These children are goal setters and eager to learn. They work hard to achieve successful grades and I enjoy watching them advance through the academic school year.
My Project
My students need plastic folders, markers, dry erase tape, pens, magnet sentence strips electronic wipes, and post-it labeling tape. These items request will make my instruction more fluid. This project is for both math and writing. With Common Core Math it is important to have the right visual aids to help guide students' understanding of a concept, that is why is am requesting a hands-on Rekenrek. The magnetic place value material will also provide hands-on understanding that will guide them all year long. The pencil holders are to maintain and continue our learning without interruption.
Because of the rigor in my classroom, we go through supplies quickly.
We are calculating problems, solving and writing word problems, and practicing sounding, writing vowel forms in words, and using sentence stems on our whiteboards all day long. Students need dry erase markers and dry marker erasers for continue practice on their whiteboards. The magnetic sentence strips are for writing sentence stems, that students will copy. The plastic folders, labels, dry eraser tape are used to keep student materials organized. The Windex wipes are for our class electronic and magnetic products we use to avoid passing germs to one another in the class.
While modeling writing I use colored markers, chiseled dry erase markers and white cover-up. Studies show that the more students write, the stronger readers they will be. All these products will support us in both math and writing. Thank You! for your consideration.
