Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My day is never a typical day. I teach students with autism and autism spectrum disorders. My biggest challenge in my classroom is keeping my students engaged in learning. Using the iPad in our math and science stations will help me keep my students engaged in learning new math and science concepts.
I work in a Title I school.
Our school has over sixteen different languages spoken and 74% students are "at-risk" of educational failure. I work with students who have special needs and their abilities vary from non-verbal to socially isolated. Students in my program do not learn through traditional teaching methods. They need hands-on learning and role playing situations so they can make real world connections. Students in my program are eager to learn and they thrive on gaining knowledge.
I need an iPad mini to put into my science and math center to build new learning concepts. For children with physical disabilities, technology can give access to learning opportunities previously closed to them. Some of my students do not have the eye hand coordinating to use a mouse with a PC, but can utilize the apps on an iPad mini through various learning applications. Making my students eager to learn is the key in my classroom and offering incentives to learn will be essential with iPad mini.
My Project
I plan on incorporating the Apple iPad mini 2 tablet into my math and science centers. The iPad mini will increase students’ motivation to learn and personalizes lessons to a student’s individual needs. Even the students with the most severe and profound disabilities can use the iPad mini to join the classroom activities and their potential in learning can be reached various ways.
Students will be learning new science concepts, attend virtual filed trips, develop online portfolios, and build academic skills and social development. In the math center the students will increase their counting skills, learn how to solve math problems, and increase their mental math capacity. When using the iPad mini I am able to personalize each students learning needs and meeting their unique learning goals with a simple click on an app.
The OtterBox protective case will help me protect the iPad mini from wear and tear of the device.
Using the Apple iPad mini 2 tablet will help my students excel, motivate learning and meet my students individual and unique needs.
Today's technology is helping students achieve independent success and my students should have those same opportunities.
The universal functionality of the iPad will allow each student to be a successful learner. The iPad will allow my student to bridge the learning gap that most special needs children face while exiting high school and becoming a successful member of the community.
