Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 23 active, curious students in my class. They love to read, joke and play games. Our school is the most diverse in southern Arizona; we have families from all over the world. I teach a "mainstream" class so I teach native English speakers and English as a Second Language students who have demonstrated proficiency in English. One third of my class speaks another language besides English at home.
My students feel safe and comfortable at school.
For many of them, it is the only place they receive enough food and attention. My students live in poverty and all of them qualify for free lunch. They are very resilient and adaptable because despite personal challenges; they arrive at school every day eager for new experiences.
My Project
We chant our school's mission everyday- "We are future scientists, technologists, engineers, artists, and mathematicians!" The technology piece is hard to keep up with since most devices are obsolete soon after production. A new iPad will give my students an opportunity to use up-to-date technology for reading and math skills practice.
There is a wide variety of options in using an iPad.
Students can use apps to practice skills, listen to books read aloud online, use Osmo technology for coding, creating videos for presentations, QR Coded cards, and countless other uses that my students will invent. This will just be the beginning of our quest for upgraded technology.
