Our world is changing before our eyes. Video games, computers, and other forms of technology now hold students' interests. Instead of competing against these stimuli, why not embrace them and use them to benefit our teaching? The use of technology in our classrooms can better meet students' needs.
All students can learn.
As a dedicated educator, I truly believe that. I do know, however, that not all students learn in the same way.
My classroom is full of diverse learners. They have varying levels of ability, different interests, and obstacles. All of my students have the desire to learn and do well, I just need to provide them with the right tools.
Half of the students in my classroom are classified as "basic skills." That means they are performing below grade level. I have a basic skills teacher come in for 45 minutes of the day to help these 10 students. 45 minutes is not enough time to meet their learning needs and help them to progress to hopefully one day be performing on their grade level. I would love to give them the attention that they need, but it is just not feasible with one teacher.
The Internet has a plethora of resources these students could benefit from. From leveled websites, to online books, and learning videos. They are all things that would help them.
My Project
"Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." -Benjamin Franklin
Students learn best when they are engaged in their learning. The use of an iPad is one way students will become more involved in their learning. They are encouraged to be more creative, as well as participate in hands-on learning.
There are thousands of interactive, educational apps created to meet the students' needs. There seems to be an app created to benefit just about every type of learner. Students can go on a journey through a virtual field trip, have books read to them that are slightly above their reading level, find information on the web about things we are studying, and much more.
The iPad has the ability to positively change the classroom. Not only will students benefit from the many resources it has to offer, but it will help them grow accustomed to the 21st century classroom.
President Obama said that teachers are "nation-builders." The future of our nation is in the hands of the teachers.
In order for students to achieve, teachers must have to proper tools to engage their learners, as well as provide them with the resources they need to be successful. Help me create a classroom of involved learners that can enjoy coming to school and are excited to learn. Thank you!
