We are 4th graders who reside in a suburb of New York. Our classroom is comprised of two English Language Arts ICT classes, taught in a departmentalized model. The 60 diverse children include general education children and children with disabilities. In addition to being made up of 40% students with special needs, both classes have students who are extremely bright and need to be academically challenged. Although our students come from different backgrounds, they all have something in common: they are excited, eager to learn, and love to participate in class discussions and activities. It is our challenge to keep them engaged and learning.
"If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn".
Our class has been very fortunate to receive a wonderful color printer to support our reading and writing program. This printer has given us an opportunity to display our knowledge in a fun and colorful way. Unfortunately, we have run out of ink.
Imagine a world without color.
You can imagine how boring lessons and presentations can be. Our classes are made up of 30 integrated special and general education students. Each child brings something special to the classroom, and our printer has given each child the opportunity to present themselves in a creative way. Our need to replenish our supplies comes directly from the students who look forward to working with our equipment here at school, and not waiting to go to the local library.
Many of our students do not have access to a printer at home, so you can imagine how many pages are printed for 60 students throughout the year. Our hope is to use this printer ink with the intention of supporting our reading and writing program.
