Students devour the book, "Wonder," gobbling up the lessons about accepting someone for who they are and not judging based on what they look like. 'Wonder" allows to students to experience the story from several characters' perspectives. Help my students explore the wonders of being a 5th grade!
I have 52 text devouring students who love to learn from stories.
Within my classes, I work with students served through special education and English Language Learners. Along with a special education teacher, I provide as many reading activities as possible to help them soar above their expectations. I provide opportunities to complete writing responses and complete projects using technology.
My Project
In the past, I used this book as a read-aloud, my students LOVED the book, begging me to read more. This book is full of wonderful lessons about life, and has many text features that are great to use as models for writing techniques. Because it is a rich text, I would like for them to be able to read using their own copies. In addition, they will complete activities in small learning groups and complete a final project using technology (create a video, power point, and/or podcasts).
This book really is powerful, engaging all students, it is a must read!
Students gain a lot from the text, including the opportunity to discuss diversity and how to handle themselves in awkward situations. By reading this text, they gain a new appreciation of how wonderful life is and how important it is to treat everyone with respect. One theme of this book is to choose kindness, through your kindness, I can inspire my students to explore kindness In their life!
