This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a small Metro Atlanta Title 1 school where students love to learn and teachers love to teach. Funding and resources are limited. Because of these limitations, needed resources are often provided and/or created by the teacher. Teachers, including myself, do this willingly and lovingly because we want to provide the very best we can for our students. Each school year, I receive a class full of bright-eyed, seven year old students full of excitement about learning. I want these feelings to last forever, but in reality it comes in waves throughout the year. What happens is students come across many speed bumps when it comes to learning, especially when it comes to math. When students get stuck on concepts, frustration sets in and for some, learning is no longer exciting. No teacher wants to see or experience this but we do, often.
With your support, I seek to remove any and all negative experiences from my classroom and work earnestly to maintain the zeal for learning.
My Project
It is a known fact that getting students from introduction of concepts to concept mastery is practice, practice, practice!!! And to keep students practicing, engagement and variety are key. This projects will make available enough fun and engaging activities and games to be introduced every 3-4 weeks and will help students to retain money concepts the whole year through. Students will initially be given basic money recognition games and activities like the Money Equivalency Puzzles and Money Flash Cards at the beginning of the year to practice during math stations. As the year progresses they will be given games and activities a little more advanced like the Buy It Right money game or the Grab & Match Leveled Money Quickies.
By the end of the year, students would have practiced money concepts in progressively challenging ways using each of the activities and games provided in this project request.
