Help me give my students hands-on materials for daily math fact fluency practice.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and religions. They are very eager to learn and are always on their best behavior. My students come to school each day and try their best. I have students in my classroom who are very high, and I have students in my classroom who are struggling. My goal is to even the playing field as much as possible.
Although the school is helpful, it does not have the money to buy all of the materials that teachers need in their classrooms.
They want what is best for the students and do as much as they can to help everyone. But there are still other things that we need as teachers that our school cannot provide for us.
After reviewing our data, we have discovered that our students are lacking math fact fluency. This has been a struggle for the last few years and we are trying to find a way to solve this problem! Our district does not have an intervention curriculum for math. As teachers, we are expected to find our own materials and figure out how to make it all work. This would be a lot easier if we had some guidelines.
A lack of fact fluency in the primary grades leads to struggling mathematicians in the intermediate grades and beyond.
We want to put an end to this cycle and try to find the best way to help and support our students. Having this math fluency kit would give me the tools that I need to successfully prepare my students for their mathematical future. They would grow their foundational skills and it would become second nature to them. This would help build their confidence and make them feel good about themselves as scholars.
