We currently have one tablet in the classroom and after just a few weeks I am noticing what an incredible impact it has had on them. A second tablet would double the amount of kids able to use it.
We are a NYC public middle-school with a diverse population.
The school is filled with passionate teachers who collaborate together to maximize student learning. It's a very positive, friendly environment. I have 83 students over three 6th grade ICT classes. ICT stands for Integrated Co-Teaching, which means there are both general education and special education students within the classroom. The students are very engaged and enthusiastic about school and we are looking for ways to continue to challenge them and keep them moving forward.
My Project
We currently have one tablet in the classroom and after just a few weeks I am noticing what an incredible impact it has had on them. The iPad is a wonderful outlet for students to work on projects and assignments in a creative, engaging manner. We've been working on a special number project and students have loved researching their number and creating presentations right on the iPad to show in class. I am blown away at how easily they have adapted to it and the amount of time they are willing to spend working on a math project if it's on the iPad. Also, they've been able to work on it in school and then email it directly home, continuing their work.
It's important for students to be engaged in the work.
While in an ideal world students would all be working out of intrinsic motivation, that is not always the case. If the iPad is going to get students to spend much more time on their work, and have fun while doing so, then so be it.
