Isle of Manhattan to the Isle of Martha's Vineyard!
My students need a ride! We need to pay for the bus to take us to our life-changing experience! Students will be attempting to fundraise and pay all other costs independently!
From the island of Manhattan to the island of Martha's Vineyard.
"You learn and experience things you didn't think you cared about.
It brought me closer to my peers in a really natural way." a senior shared as she reflected on her trip to Martha's Vineyard with her peers.
Students in the program come from every area of the globe, speaking over 10 languages, celebrating different cultures, religious practices but have come together in the most diverse city in the world. While their backgrounds are very different they share the same high school experiences.
Our goal is to take these culturally diverse students and expose them to a completely different look at how students just a few hours experience high school. They will investigate and interact in the new environment, interact with the community, and dine on local cuisine!
My Project
Going to school off Wall Street and within the Financial District is a diverse, hectic, and urban experience. By visiting the quiet island of Martha's Vineyard, home of an old whaling industry, with its own kind of ethnic diversity and mixture of affluence, many students experience a quiet night in the woods or a beach bonfire for the first time.
These young New Yorkers learn more about what makes them different to their Martha Vineyard counterparts, as well as what makes them the same.
Expanding their frames of reference offers them opportunities to work on networking and interpersonal skills with peers from different communities.
