This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in an outstanding school with highly motivated students in Memphis, TN. We are a public school where students have to maintain high academic standards, display integrity, learn to become community and academic leaders and provide service to others.
It is a small optional school within the Shelby County School system.
I love the enthusiasm and goal-driven nature of these students. They take opportunities to grow seriously and keep me motivated as an educator to keep finding new goals for us to pursue together.
My Project
I am developing this project because I think that a classroom library will be a place that my students will really enjoy; because they are reading independently and also discussing about their books selection with their classmates. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind-trying to focused on diversity, Hispanic history, and leadership. I also think that independent reading is the best way students can improve in their target language.
My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading in other classes, so this project is part of an institutional goal in MCHS; develop reading activities to INCREASE LITERACY.
