My students need 25 copies of "Sideways Arithmetic from Wayside School" and "More Sideways Arithmetic from Wayside School" to enhance our interdisciplinary studies.

Understanding a story or novel means that you need to understand the six elements used by authors when they write a story or novel. How about we teach those elements while learning math? This is what my students will do this year.
This is my first year at a model school that incorporates Performing and Visual Arts.
Our urban school provides federal programs like free and reduced lunch and Title I. My students are energetic and very busy within the classroom. Even with parental support, I would love to say that my students have everything that they need to be successful, but they do not. I am preparing all of them for college and the world beyond, so they can have a better life.
Completing novel studies with students help them develop a better appreciation for literature, increases their vocabulary and their overall comprehension skills. Integrating mathematics enhances instruction and allows for deeper understanding. Interdisciplinary studies is a way to add rigor and relevance to instruction and cover everything in the curriculum. But to do it seriously you need good literature that will grab the student. We need 25 copies of both "Sideways Arithmetic From Wayside School" and "More Sideways Arithmetic From Wayside School" for an interdisciplinary novel study. I want attentive, active readers. This means reading and applying the information and knowledge to real world situations. It means making connections and being actively engaged with the book. This can only happen when you are interested in what you are reading. Developing math concepts while reading literature bridges problem solving and critical thinking skills which are important in today's society
This project will help start the school year with a buzz for learning that will continue throughout the year.
Placing these books in a child's hands will open their minds and spark creativity.
