Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Thank you for the opportunity to request support for our class and school. We are a wonderfully diverse school with talented, committed and kind staff; as well as students. A majority of our students come from economically challenged, bilingual families. Many struggle with reading and language skills but are eager and willing to learn when provided with appropriate resources. Our students are respectful and enjoy coming to school where they can learn, be with friends and teachers.
Our school emphasizes teaching through Art and STEM and we are blessed with students who are engaged and excited about creative learning opportunities.
I have taught for 18 years but this is only my second year teaching 3rd grade and I need a little help acquiring materials and resources. I love this age and grade. Building a "school family" is really important to me, as it helps students feel comfortable and confident while at school. I enjoy planning units, learning about each student and setting up my classroom for optimal learning.
My Project
As our school focuses on increasing reading and overall literacy skills, it is vital that we build our library and provide a wide range of title, genres, and levels for students to learn from. Students are highly engaged when learning about animals and insects because they can connect them to real-world experiences. The books I'm hoping to acquire provide enticing pictures as well!
Our school does not have a library so it is up to the teachers to build and provide comprehensive classroom book collections!
I have many offerings for my kiddos but lack book sets to use in small group learning centers which have proven to be very effective in engaging students.
