My Students

I teach sixth-grade science in a small, rural Tennessee town. We are a high poverty area and many of my students do not always have the same opportunities as students in urban areas.

My students are inquisitive, eager to learn and love new challenges!

Our new curriculum is project based and enables all students to work at their own pace through the required work. Progress is monitored through checkpoints and students can easily see how they are progressing through their 6th grade work.

We have 'mini' lessons during the week which I base on student curiosities and historical contexts or to demonstrate science concepts we are learning or reviewing.

As a teacher, it is my responsibility to expand my students' horizons. Providing them with activities that stretch their brains and provide them with a challenge will motivate and engage my students.

My Project

In conducting our experiments, my students have difficulty reading a traditional thermometer. Granted, the ones we have are rather inexpensive ones, and not as accurate as we would like.

Digital thermometers will enable my students to conduct thermal energy experiments like professionals!

I want my students to enjoy science experiments and when they struggle to read the instruments we have in class, it takes some of the joy out of the experience.

Please help me give my students a set of digital thermometers so that they can read temperatures more easily and experience the joy of a science experiment instread of frustration.
