I want my students to research the different cultures and customs in America and around the world so that they too will command the attention of the world.
I teach three fifth grade English/language arts classes with a total of seventy-two amazing, active students who are all about technology.
These children are extremely bright and eager to learn. We work daily in literacy centers that allow them opportunities to engage in hands-on activities with one computer designated for literacy games. Needless to say, the computer is the most sought-after activity as they all love technology. Having two iPads at one of our centers will allow the students to research and create presentations. These iPads will provide them inspiration to work on their own level.
Our school is a Title 1 school; however, due to all the budget cuts, we do not have sufficient funding available for technology. Our school has over 800 students who range world-wide culturally. These iPads will help not only my students this year, but they will benefit the future fifth grade students for many years.
My Project
Each day, a total of twelve students will use the iPads during our literacy center time. Using these iPads will expose my students to cultures and traditions they may never experience. The opportunities to grow and the impact on the lives of these students are countless. My students are ready to soar and command the attention of the world; they just need your help. The students will use these iPads to do a research project about different cultures from around the world along with a research project about civil rights leaders. The students will be able to use iPad applications to help with their presentations. These iPads will allow independent, engaging practice while letting the children have fun and engaging them in cross-curriculum standards.
This project will truly change the lives of my students.
